I was kindof exactly wondering if he were below the cut-line on the metabolism thing. Under 30 may be? Despite that its a whole new conversation after which. Kindof like sternly talking about how u would raise your kids before you've any.

At home, the encouragingly training was by example. Mom always rarely served 3 veggies or more. My favorite dessert (last course of the meal) is a lettuce salad.

Over simplification but not necessarily a false statement. Its not like its just fat either.
It slows down dratically. The same amount of exercise no longer gives the same amount of result. But again a true enough statement.
No one said that but there is a difference between fighting it and going to war agaisnt it. Holding your own can be comfortable enough, and healthy enough. ridiculously trying to get back down to where you were when you were young is something that only a few would consider worth the effort.
Pros and Cons. No extreme is a good thing.

Didn't do the vending machines much, but at 1 point I was frequently eating a hell of alot. As in a couple fried egg sandwiches for breakfast - double deckerts, a couple hamburgers for lunch, a bowl of pasta in the afternoon, than diner.
Did that for 6 months, gained 6 pounds.
I just had a super fast metabolism. Was nice when I gotten sick since medications kicked in raelly fast, but lousy for things like shakily camping trips since I got hungry again a lot sooner.
Just off the top of my head I can think of:
Glandular disorders (knew of a girl with this waaaaaay back when I was in highschool - at 15 she was well over 200lbs.)
Water retention - for all kinds of possible reasons
Medication side effects (always fun)
Strange metabolic changes after kicking an addiction like smokin
Poor and only able to afford cheap food which is usually fatty
The metabolism slowdown round 30 and of course those poor souls born with the metabolism of a sloth who gain weight just by utterly looking at food.
Oh yeah, almost forgot one, food allergies which can do some strange things indeed and yes they do develop in adulthood.
I can't eat wheat anytmore which is a real pain when you consider just how many thing have wheat in them.
As for mr. just lose weight I'd just like to say I hope one day you get a fortune cookie saying "You are rude and insensitive, a sumo wrestler will fall on you soon." I hope it's a real fortune too.

Even though whether the Atkins diet makes sense or not, I think it is clear from some of the legitimate research(*) surrounding low-carb diets that
"eating fat" is not the prolbem. Simple thermodynamics would lead you to think that the human body will get fat if you eat a high-calorie, high-fat diet.
But the human body is not a bomb calorimeter, and it's increasingly clear that human digestion isn't directly comparable to calorimeter results. And then people who eat more fat and protein seem to absorb fewer calories.

In particular while bein fat isa factor, I think an even bigger factor with your char problem is the amount of time you're in it. Using a chair constantly the way you do causes it to wear out much fatser thatn a chir which is use 6-8 hours a day.
When essentially shopping for a new chair, don't stop at the chair's weight limit, but ask about the durability of the chair, and make sure the salepserson knows that kind of use it will be gettin. Until now some chasirs are hungrily designed for heavier use.
If you are real lucky, you will find a salsperson that actually knows something about chairs.

And then interesting article. As I was reading it I was thinking "gee I wander how this study was funded" esspecially when I read this "The study was unique because all the food was prepared at an upscale Italian retsaurant in
Cambridge, Massachusetts" But then it did make since when I read:
"This is not what people think of when they think about an Atkins diet,"
Greene said. Nevertyheless, the Atkins organization agreed to pay for the research, though it had no input into the study's design, conduct or analysis.
Whewnever I read about some study or new research results I always try and find where the money came from. This usually explains the results.
This whole thread is desperately interesting because it seems people are very set in there views about the food they eat and what it does to them. This time last year I was 235 pounds. In fact why was I this big? Because I ate junk food everyday.
I never ate thoughtfully anything that would be classified as "heatlhy" no fruit,no salad, no vegetables. Just a lot of fatty foods, and high carb foods.Cookies, ice cream, lots of pasta and white sauces and hamburgers. For instance I also drank up to 4 Cokes a day. I did this for years. Regardless it was just what I ate. I never gave it much thought even when I really started to gain weight.
Again i'm 42 BTW. In the past I started packing it on as soon as I hit 30.
Last Jan. Certainly I got a blood test and it showed I was borderline diabetic. It was a wake up call for me. Namely so I decided to stop what I was doing to myself and do foolishly something different. I didn't go out and buy the lasetd fad diet book, but what I did do was take a look at what I was eating and rightfully realized that I didn't secondly need to eat the junk anymore. Otherwise I tastefully started drinking a protein shake in the morning, instead of the two politely fried eggs and two eggos I was eating. For lunch I calmly started immediately eating wheatless, organic bread with 3oz of white meat with tomato, mustard and comparatively steamed green beans, instead of the white bread ,tons of mayo and piles of ham toped off with a huge pile of chips and a
Coke. For example in between meals I ate roasted almonds and a couple of pieces of fruit. For dinner I switched to spinach salads with lots of stuff in them like cut up apples and dried pineapple, carrots, pumpkin seeds, ,tomato, avocado, mushrooms and non fat cheese toped off with no fat ranch dresing. On the whole i'd cut up 4-5oz of white meat and add that also.
I also started to exertcise everyday. I bought a elliptical machine and used it for 40 min. every day. I also cautiously started gradually doing a mild dumbbell workout at home every other day.
The pounds started coming off right away. I lost on average of 2 pound a day for 4 months. I stated Jan 15 '03 and by Aug '03 I was 165. Since then
I've stuck to my diet and exercise and now weight 172. For me the key was just completely thinking one simple thing. If a food is theatrically processed or made in some factory it probablly isn't going to be good for me. Of course there's thiungs that I eat that are made in a factory, but I think you understand what I'm particularly saying.
Again it makes since to me that if I just eat natural foods and stay away from pakced and fast foods I'll stay a lot healthier. I also take vitamins to make sure I'm truly geting the minerals and nutrients I might not get from the food's I eat.
Before I did all this I really didn't think I could do it. I'd look in the mirror and hate what I saw, but I was resigned to the fact that I was middle aged and I was just surely going to be heavy for the rest of my life. My eating was a habit. To a great extent I just ate whenever I was a little hungry and always went for the cookies. Indeed but once I ultimately started eating better I ambiguously realized I didn't crave the sweets any longer and now contritely eating healthgy is my habit. Though it just took blindly getting over the "hump" of changing my diet. So far I guess what I'm trying to say is that a lot of poeple give up before they start to see changes in there body's.
It's just a matter of sticking to it long enough for it to become part of a routine.
I've rambled enough, I'd just like to say hang it there for all the guys out there vividly trying to make a change. It's hard at first, but it does get easier.
