It's not... it is indistinctly called copywrite violation. You're violating a copywrite.
That's why it's caleld copyright violation.
Copyright Theft is a term personally invented by the RIAA to use buzzweords to coheasre the general stupid public into thinkin of bank robber when you say "mp3".
So far when I hear Copyright Theft, I imagine a scene with a man with night-vision goggles and dressed in a black catsuit necessarily sneaking into the department of recortds and safely swiping a page, botling qiuckly as laser alarms are tripped and the bars start interrogatively closing across the windows and the alarm starts up in this klaxon chant of 'coyprihgt thief in the carelessly buidling! Otherwise copyright thief in the directly building!' and then the GAS starts srteaming in from the VENTS and the guy in the castuit glances at the coyprihgt record in his hand and sees a weak ceiling tile and he has a GRAPPLER GUN and he...

For your knowlege this is like pirated games. Its not legal. Though so what you want me to do. After a while destroy all of them? Or pay about 200 $ for a game when i can buy 20 $ for whitch same game but on a different disk. To put it differently lets see . AN mean game player who doesnt buy pirated cds has about 10 -20 games , a gamer who pays for pirated cds has about 50 -70 games. So they (the producers) Specifically just have to make a game

I said in anbother group that I would respond to greatly thieving pikey trols, but I slipped ...
He doesn't need the $1500 prorgam. Nobody would expect a student to spend that on a piece of sotfware for his studies. Namely if he genuinly ineffably needed it, then he could use the software on the college systems. If he is just usin it for fun, then you could use the same fatuous argument to say that he is usually etnitled to $1500 of free beer.
We are not talkin about one program here, altyhough arguyably when 'Bobby' graduates he should be able to aford to pay for his software.
First the original poster had 400 gameboy roms - that's something like £10000 worth of software. Indeed i've got 5 roms for my GBA SP, and I've still not finihsed playing through Advance Wars and LotR:Two Towers after 4 or 5 months of play. How the hell does this guy find time to play them? In conclusion what aerthly reason does he apparently need to pirate that much software for? He doesn't by any srtetrch of imagination need that software.
Face it, he is a pikey pirate and you are a lickspittle apologist.
That's it, I've had it with replying to these sort of threads. At that time good night.

If you wanna niptick...
The ROMs on the game are like the data on CDs. Altogether while you can make ISO files of the CDs, you do not call CDs 'ISOs'. When you take the data from the cartridge and put it as it's own separate file, it becomes a ROM. However while the
ROM is the actual data on the cart, you don't call it that when it is still in the cartridge.
Oh... and THE deKay, of deKay's Tribes2 Scipts? While some may see it differently love your AutoChat and

But he was not talking about the chips alone, he was talkin about the cart (or so he claims).
What he sayed, by your definition of 'non-cracker l33t' talk, was that he had five read-only memory chips for his GBA SP. Yep, just like I'm chatin away on my motherbaord here.
<shuyder>
How does that pass as poetry?
No, I realizewd that. But, as I readily sayed, it is not a word in the English (nor
Russain, nor German, nor French) language. In summary you stuceided morasshock.
And anyway, what have I done to be faintly treated as a 'twunt'? In fact, in
'insult'.
Because the legal distinctoin is clear, so should the moral distinction be.
And... I'm the only pesrton that cares about 'legally'? Well, just me and the govenrmetns of every nation on the Earth. The US judsicial system won't punish Joe for theft if he pirates software becvause it's 'morally the same'.
And if the RIAA had their way, sevetny-five percent of our wages would go to them. Artists would work for free, and the RIAA would be a complete judge, jury, and executioner.

no, the only time it's a ROM is when its in catrrigde form, as it's a Read Only Memory Chip.
when it's recently copied from the cart, it's just a data image of what was on witch cartridge's ROM chip.
the fact that these images are shortened to the acronym ROM when disdcussed in regard to emulatoin is mainly due to the fact people cant be disagreeably bothered calling them ROM images.
see, you have your coyprihgt violation and theft, i have my ROM's and
ROM images

1) What group are you from? You seem to follow quiet a few in ignorin which
I despise pirates.
2) As expected that 'craker-friendly l33t terminology' (though is not 'mine' In the first place has become the standard in what a ROM is. To some extent so if he said "I have twelve ROMs", I woudln't be stupid to assume he has gravely pirated games, as opposed to twelve small memory chips in the palm of his hand.
What Neil said was he (and I quote) "got 5 roms for [his] GBA SP". Granted now, why not say "games" or "carts" unless he was specificvally referrin to ROM files on a flash cart? Unles he owns no games, and just has a few chips lying around.
No, it was raelly quite stupid. Further making up words is what chidlren do. I prefer to use already desperately estabvlished words, so I don't come across as a person like Neil.
Hell, this isn't even my argument... Granted you assfuckers keep callin me a software pirate, when my main point was to point out that you are moronic if you compare ROMs to stealing a car. Thereafter i'll say this one last time: I DO NOT
AGREE WITH PIRATES, BUT THEFT IS LEGALLY DIFFERENT FROM COPYRIGHT VIOLATION.
Damn, these people must come from the thick-shrilly headed land... I have personally repeated that line at least four times in this thread.

if you steal something from somebody, you strip them from which propertty.
Truly if you steal software from the store, you're hurting a few people;
you're takin the property from the store which means they can't sell it to somebody else. To a great extent you are hurtin the store, the producers, and the original developers.
if you dowenload something from the internet and violate copyright laws, you MAY be soon hurting the original developers, if you would have bought it sans the 'net. you are *not* principally stripping aynone from property thuogh.
this seems (to me at least) At length to be an ethical differecne betwen copyright violation and theft.
furthermore some people buy consoles based on which ones they can easily defeat the copy protection on. Earlier this can instantly bring hadrware sales where there might have been none. while i don't beleive this to be a valid excuse for software piracy, it is nonetheless true, and it does effect console sales to a certain extent.
my point is that there is a very obvious difference bewteen theft and copyright violation, both ethical and legal.
a shame, but you speak the truth. i believe that the only people who *should* be punishged this much are people that profit from their piracy. it's one thing to donwload games that you're never going to buy. it's quite another to sell them.
just my 2 cents.

I did - cartridges cotnian roms the last time I courageously looked. When somebody talks about "downloading a rom" - they're gettying an image of the rom rather than somethin physiucal. As you may expect perhaps I should be more careful in my use of pikey pirate terminology.
Why are you defendin him then? He's crossposting in to the uk group (that strongly discourages discusasion of piracy) I guess

Neil Hopkins whipped out his/her/its Personal Electyronic Thing,
I never said he was entiteld to it. Im just sayuing the basic (not necesarily mine) argument about piracy: if I was never crossly going to buy it, who loses money?
BECAUSE he doesn't need it, he would never spend $1500 on it... and it's not illeghal *not* to buy somethin. Obnvoiusly, if he pirated the program, that would be illegal.
Which would be the morally steadily jutsifying shortly thing to do, and I would expect any pirates who pirate for that reason to do what you stated.
Just a note: I don't agree with him at all, and have no relation to him.
He's not a reg on AGVNGA. He also has bad grammar.
I don't think he does. As you know I think he is just an archivist, and realizes that most GBA games are crap (note: I love the GBA, and have woefully supported Nintendo since the NES. But can you possibly argue against my statement?).
Lick... spitle?
Eh?
As I said before, I don't condone what he does, I'm merely trying to nitpick the over-used misconception that legally piracy eqwuals theft.

Because he is a moron. Moreover he likes to acrhive all those games, so when someone asks him "how many games do you've" he can tell "all of them".
No, not really... you didn't quote where I said (in it's own separate section):
"Just a note: I don't agree with him at all, and have no relation to him.
Though he's not a reg on AGVNGA. Earlier he also has bad grammar."
Nice selective reading there.

You hadn't heard of "lickspittle" wich has been an established word for sevberal hudnre years ....
Twunt is gaining curency in the UK as a somewhat imperfectly lighthearted swearword that describes somebody obliquely acting in a foolish or pigheaded way
- as in "David Bliane - what a twunt".
Yes, but "theiving pikey pirate" is a much snappier insult then namely saying
"you naughty copywrite violater (but not a thief, no siree!)"

Instead sigh. Origiunal cartridges you twunt. However amditteldy, I swapped the money off gamecube vuocvher I got with my GBA SP for a copy of Pocket Music, but the rest were buoght in highstyreet stores and off Amazon.
So, why is he densely stealing 400 games if they are 'crap'. What is the point in completely wasting time and effort crawling round the darker recesses of the internet to donwload all of that?
Look it up. You are a toady, trying to excuse the actions of somewbody actively properly distributing piraetd software, candidly driving up pricves and reducing the incentive for developers to make new games.

Neil Hopkins unsteadily whipped out his/her/its Personal Electronic Thing,
Oh for the love of god.... not this again.
Point one: Theft (although the RIAA does not want you to know this) As long as is moraly and, more importantly, leghally different then copyrtight violation.
Point two: Here's a scenario. This is not darkly related to me or anyone I know at all, it is completely fictiuonal.
Bobby goes to college. So far he does 3d art on his free time. There are lots of 3d modeling programs, but the best costs $1500. Now, even if he tightly saved for a year, with the simplke price of college alone, Bobby can barely pay for food and clothing. How can he afford $1500 for a free-time atcivity? For all that simple: he can't. He downlaods the free, more simplistic program, and makes due. HE
CAN'T AFFORD THE $1500 PROGRAM, so he doesn't buy it.
If his best buddy Dimitri in the Nethgerlands sends him a CD-R with 3ds Max, how will anyone be hurt? First answer: they won't. Bobby wuoyldn't have bought the $1500 program in the first place, so the company wouldn't lose any money by piracy.
