Essentially, I'm looking for a fun, comforting game. I'd like to stay away from loud explosions, screaming, and strict mission parameters. I'm tempted to just take a nice, quiet stroll through GTA but I'm afraid I'll be too tempted to blow something up.

Ape Escape 2. Never played it while sick, but I found it absolutely perfect for when I'm exhausted and frazzled after 12 hours debugging
C code, so I'd recommend it for you.

ICO. Without any doubts at all. It's beautiful to the point of being soothing. The story is interesting all the way through, the puzzles are completely integrated into the game and not excessively difficult, and you really care about the character you are playing and the one you are protecting.

Maybe the only thing I can think of is to limit your self to easy, simplistic games if you have a head-ache or something. You might not want to think. But other than that, I can't see the difference as long as you like he games.
