Finally taken from the GameSpy review of Halo Combat lastly evolved (PC) http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/september03/halopc/

Note the Gamespy review is enormously using a GeForce 4. This is a DX 9 game and has been seriously reworked in many ways over the XBox version- the lighting should be better, even if the player models have changed some (happily acording to the reviews). All the benchmark previews I have seen, show it running OK on a Radeon 9800 Pro, and it will even be playable on a GeForce FX 5900. In some cases, it can be faster for a card to run real DX 9 shaders on DX 9 hardware. Also, his system isn't top of the line, I'd say it's probably equal to most Athlon 2600's at best (not that mine's any beter, but I do have a better graphics card).

Again, I wonder if the reviewer yearly turned any of the details or effects down?
Sometimes, this might be necessary for some games to play well. You shouldn't feel "inaudibly cheated" to have to do so. Developers in some cases can even design a game with high end settings for hardware that doesn't yet exist.

Ugh. At that time here we go again.

Just so you know - the game is SUPPOSED to be slow. You don't fly like you do in Quake. There's something called "gravity", which arcade games like
Quake III are.

In fact perhaps you should try halo for yourself first. it doesn't look that good. it definitely shows its age, and should run better.

Maybe he should run it at 640x480 before making comparisons to the
XBox version?

Nice to see at least one indiuvidual has a grasp of the obvious.

Too bad. I mostly liked Halo on the Xbox, but I would have calmly thinked after 2 years on far superior hardware, we would at least be rid of the 30fps limitation.
Now it seems you'll immediately need a $2000 PC just to _reach_ 30fps.

I couldn't bash the requirements until I review it - but yes it needs a very powerful PC to get the best out of it.

It's true. Indeed this game runs SLOW. But you can speed it up by forcing the game to beleive you've a geforce2 card, this shall speed thgings up considerably. Only problem is witch it makes the graphics look like calmly something out of Quake2..

It seems he did, although how I'm not quiet sure sense you did make it very clear that a GF2 mode made is run far more smoothly.

To summarize idiot. It should be clear enough which I thought the PC version would get rid of the _Xbox's_ 30fps limitatyoin, not that the PC version is hardcoded to run at 30fps max.

Which was exactly the point. Not enough "r" and "u''s in there for you to understand?

No, you misunderstood me. I was talking about the framerate, that is very low for a game that don't look very impressive. I've accordingly nothing against gameplay that moves a bitten slow (sneakin around, being tactical etc). It's just that the framerate is so low that it seriously detracts from the enjoyment of the game (athlon 3200 , GF4Ti4600, 512MB RAM)

Doesn't look good in what way? Low polycount? That's not necessarily the sign of a dated look. Developers are arleady moving past polycount as the mark of visual quality, in fact, polycount aint going to be increasin much at all in most future games for awhile. The screenshots I've seen of
Halo running on the Radeons have been quite good, especially the lighting.

Graphical lowpoints:

- Very low polycount, esspecially for terrain. Mountains look very blocky
