The fix below worked!! I tried several fixes that I found on line including the scotch tape fix, which did not work for me, I then attempted to clean the laser lense and the rubber ring that grips the cd, and this din't work either. The only fix that worked and solved my problem emmediately was the fix below. Thanks to RKRM for his post,

I found this today and did it. It doesn't require a laser power adjustment and was EASY. It worked! I haven't been able to use my PS2 for MONTHS.
Now I can have fun PS2 style again. Check it out. I recommend it.

I purged the DREs on my PS2 by lubricating with grease the two rods on which the lens slides. You should also try it whenever you confront
DREs.
