I have never understood the need for owners of one platform to vehemently attack the platforms of the competition. I mean, a lttle friendly banter is fine, but a lot of the gamers I read messages from literally hate the competition and all those that buy their products.
I've been delighted with my PS2 for about a year now, but have been tempted to get an XBox lately due to the fact that it seems to be regularly coming out with the games I like to play (Halo, KOTR, etc.), plus the graphics are cleaner in a side by side comparison. So, I broke down and got one this week. I still love my PS2, and can't wait for the release of SOCOM 2. I love the XBox for the graphics and the aforementioned games. Why is it so important to swear one's allegiance to one or the other? If you can only afford one right now, then save your pennies and pick up the other in six months or so. Everyone wins.

Let the whining and flamewars begin...

Why? Becasue people are tucked safely away behind a computer screen where the courage flows much faster...

I don't see why anyone would want to put the competition out of business.
Why would a true gamer want to limit his access to consoles and games? You might hate Bill Gates, but it doesn't change the fact that HALO is a kick butt game that wouldn't have existed if no one decided to challenge Sony.
Personally, I don't like the PS2 because the controller motions aren't as good (the N64 is still the best IMHO), but I have no desire to see them fold up shop. I live in Japan and I have a PS2 so I can watch all region DVDs (1st edition PS2 with the glitch). So, thank you very much, Sony!

Spending my time hoping that one of them goes out of business is like hoping that I can never play Halo 2 or find another PS2 to watch DVDs in Japan.

Makes no sense to me...

I sell Japanese video games on eBay...so I currently have or have had a PS2,
PSX, Sega Dreamcast (Seaman, Regular, Sakura Wars, Pearl Blue, Black
Regulation 7), Sega Saturn (regular, V-Saturn, Hi-Saturn, Skeleton Saturn (both blue and black)), Neo Geo CD (CDZ, Top Loader, Front Loader), Neo Geo
AES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo NES, 2 Nintendo NES clones from China, one from Korea, Bandi Intellivision, Pippin, Sega Wondermega, JVC WonderMega 2,
Nintendo 64 64 DD, FM Towns Marty II, Casio Loopy, Casio MSX, Nintendo
Playmate, Sega MegaJet, Sega Mega Drive 3, PC Engine Super Grafx, NEC PC-FX,
PC Engine Core II, and a PC Engine Super CD2. I should have a Panasonic Q
Gamecube in next week which will be a great addition to my collection!

Imagine what we would have had if there was only one supplier....*shudder*.... You'd have to choose one from the above list and wish the others away..

Garbage was a stretch, I just couldn't get into it.
I have a feeling Jordan has a thing for Sony. I hope it's only a summer thang.

I just feel like I wasted my money on the GameCube and the only reason I bought one in the first place is because I am one of those "got to have everything" guys. Next time I will know better.

I think the GameCube is a great system minus a lot of bells and whistles I feel Nintendo should've included, but they are severely lacking games!

OMG, it is such a bizarre but cool game. He is a summary from gamerankings.com

"The premise of Cubivore is simple. Eat or be eaten. Assume the role of an animal in its early stages of development. But, in the harsh reality of nature, this creature has no parent to coddle and protect it. From the moment the game begins, your creature is on its own to fend for its life.
As your animal instincts take over, you will boldly traverse hostile environments, savagely stalking your prey and asserting your place in the animal chain of power. Will you have what it takes to become the new king of the beasts?"

A good deal of people that get involved in the flamewars on the internet do so as if they are playing a game. I guess visiting forums suchs as these is a hobby/game to them. I purchase "every" system that comes out and I enjoy them equally. Ok, that's not totally true. I feel the GameCube was a disappointment to me. It has great capabilities but it only has a couple games since it's release I enjoyed. I think I am going to be patient when
Nintendo launches their next system and wait and see how it pans out before purchasing one. "Sometimes" I find the back and forth on usenet almost as entertaining as playing games.

People who want something that no one else has. How else do you explain the decent sales price for Dragonball Z Shinbutoden on Sega Saturn?

I dont really know why, I mean if I had the spare cash (and nothing better to spend it on....) I'd probably go get my self a second console, though probably a GC.

I'm quite willing to accept that a PS2 has many, many more games, and there a a number of very good games that I'm missing out on. However I don't see that as a huge issue.

However there are two things that do shit me off;

* People who think that because there are less games, there is a shortage.
I mean there are only 207 games aviliable (in Australia) and I've played all of.... 9ish of them..... There are at least a dozern I want, but I'm not going to buy untill I've finished my current games.

* People who keep trying to tell me that the PS2 is as fast as the Xbox.
Yes and my two year old gfx card is just as fast as the latest one that was released...... It's nothing to be ashamed of, the PS2 was realeased a lot eairlier then teh xbox so of course it is going to be slower, strangly enought when the PS3 gets released it will be faster then the Xbox.....

I am very entertained by flame wars also, but I don't get involved in them.
I am willing to admit that I'm a PS2 fanatic. I don't feel like arguing about it though. I got a Xbox also and my sisters have a gamecube. The gamecube sucks though.

It's not, but when someone comes into a non-Sony group talking about how the PS2 is "all that", people such as myself are going to unload on them. I guess a better question to ask is "Why do some people feel the need to stir up trouble?"

I think it comes down to inherent insecurity. People who aren't secure in their $200 or $300 hardware purchase and $50 to $1000 software investment can't handle that they may have made a bad decision. They try to tear other systems down to make their own choice seem like a safe, logical decision.

As for myself, I don't troll the Sony groups. I don't need to. I'm too busy having fun with my Dreamcast, Gamecube and Xbox.

There is no real debate: The XBox is a newer, more powerful system that has the advantage of a hard drive. The PS2 has the Sony name, and with that, much better sales and a ton more titles.
Personally I prefer the XBox (faster loading times, hard drive, more powerful hardware) but the PS2 beats it hands down as far as the sheer number of games available and it has a better controller (though the
XBox "S" controller is much improved over the original one).

It's all a maturity thing. I'm 32, and enjoy the xbox as an escape from everything from time to time. I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about the PS2. I also don't know the platform demographics, but I imagine most players are younger people, and therefore not very mature. Just my 2 cents.

Pikmin I just couldn't get into, I don't know why. Animal Crossing was the same thing... "Hey, it's just like an RPG except there's no story, no combat and nothing interesting to do! All right!

There's no demand in the US for Japanese systems that you've listed, or else
I would have bought them.

I got one at launch and felt it's been a decent system. If it were my only system I'd probably be disappointed, but it does have some interesting and good exclusives. MP, Zelda, AC, Cubivore, Beach Spikers, ED, Wario World,
SMB, Star Wars RL and Pikmin.

I couldn't agree more Rene. I'm 41, and that has a lot to do with my "big deal" mentality. I love gaming and all, but it just isn't a big enough part of my life to get worked up over.
