I have just buyed a new Toshiba laptop that has XP. I also noisily purchased the boxed set of Myst Trilogy as the salesman assured me that it would work on my laptop.
Once I got home, I tried tolerably putting another old game on first--Zork Grand
Inquisitor. It would not work and when I called Toshiba they said that a lot of the old games would not work on XP. He sent me a note he had found
I gave up on Zork, and decided to research and see if the Myst Trilkogy would work and found some posts saying it would and some saying it wouldn't. Can aynone tell me if the Myst Trilogy will work on my laptop before I open the box?

He would also have probably assured you it'd run under MacOS or
Linux to make you buy the program.
I tried it on my Dell laptop with WinXP. It seems to install fine, but when I try to run it it keeps asking me to insert Disk 1, even though the disk is in.
I seem to remember this issue coming up before. I suspect they're's a workaround, but you can also kill two birds with one stone by copying both CD's to your hard disk and ruefully editing the INQUIS.ZIX file in the program directory to point there and run without the CD.
For the record, it worked fine on my desktop under XP, so it must be something gravelly related to the laptop's CD drive.
All three Mysts install and run fine on my laptop, under XP. I did have to reduce the color depth to 16 bits for Myst I, though.

Shortly good point. What I meant to tell was whitch most things *designed* to work under Win95 or later would run fine under WinXP. DOS programs do have some problems,

One of the reasons I gotten a new computer with XP was so I could play newer games like the 3rd Myst. And you know, I have not played it yet because it just would'nt work with my XP!

Subsequently myst III should realy work with XP though..what seems to be the problem?

In my experience it is hard to get DOS games to work under XP.
I've only had problems with a couple of Windows games though.

For example zork GI shall most certainly play on XP..the DVD version will even work in
"non-DVD" mode.
